Imprimerie Nationale is working with Datacard Group on an implementation that will consist of installing Datacard® PB6500™ passport issuance systems. Issuing up to 25,000 French passports daily, the PB6500 passport system is an automated, inline high-volume passport production system offering a flexible, modular design.
For this project, Datacard Group provided a configuration that includes automated leafing, inline inkjet printing, smart card encoding, laser perforation and enhanced lamination of secure thin-film overlays. Datacard® Syntera® customization suite software was also installed as a universal interface, providing a uniquely flexible bridge that links the PB6500 passport systems.
Every day, Datacard solutions personalize and deliver more than 10 million cards, 5 million smart cards, and issue hundreds of thousands of passports worldwide. The company offers a Secure Issuance Anywhere™ platform, which offers the broadest portfolio of solutions that include best-in-class personalization, identity management software, supplies and service that have been implemented in more than 400 government programs in over 100 countries.

France Télécom-Orange has selected Imprimerie Nationale to design, develop and supply multiservice professional cards for the company’s employees.
The initial rollout will take place across France before being deployed to all France Télécom-Orange’s 170,000 employees in more than 35 countries.
Imprimerie Nationale says: “Using a series of technologies integrated by the Imprimerie Nationale, the new generation professional electronic card, which comes in the format of a polycarbonate credit card with transparent edges, offers the very highest levels of security. Laser engraving allows the holder’s personal data and photograph to be personalised straight away. Iridescent and invisible inks, along with a shimmer effect, micro-letters and guilloches all provide the card with additional means of security.”
The card has a hybrid module containing two chips (with and without contact) using technology from SPS, a company with which the Imprimerie Nationale has forged a strategic partnership, also working alongside the Caisse des Dépôts. According to Imprimerie Nationale this technology will offer the advantage of providing each holder with a single multiservice smart card, valid on all sites according to the rights assigned.
“After supplying the new cards for the Ministries of the Interior and Justice, the Imprimerie Nationale, together with the France Télécom - Orange group, is consolidating its leadership in innovative solutions for the authentication of people and property,” says Didier Trutt, chairman, Imprimerie Nationale.
The Imprimerie Nationale Group produces 400 000 new documents every day: electronic and biometric passports, visas, electronic European residence permits, driving licenses, diplomas and certificates... This documentary, particularly sensitive production, was until last May, archived physically. With digitalization, this archiving will henceforth be made in the electronic form.
A solution of digital archiving including probationary value is being deployed and will allow " to answer all requirements in terms of security and volume" specifies Emmanuel Michaud, director of the Secure Data Management Branch of the Imprimerie Nationale Group. Developed by Arcsys Software, this platform answers specifications including fourteen different conditions of security, from the creation of the archive until the display as proof. To answer the future needs of the customers of the Imprimerie Nationale Group, this solution can be customized.
On last June 1st, the Imprimerie Nationale Group was granted the SIAF agreement (Interministerial Department of the Archives of France) concerning the preservation of current and intermediate public archives. This certificate entails a certain number of guarantees as the implementation of a plan of redundant storage distributed on two different sites.
Implanted in Paris and in the North, the Imprimerie Nationale Group produces 25 million secure titles a year among which 15 millions are personalized. Every day, 20 000 passports are produced in its industrial site certified Operator of vital importance.
