Paris, December 13th, 2011 – Since December 7th, and till February 4th, 2012, the Imprimerie Nationale is the gust of the Grolier Club of New York, the oldest bibliophiles' American club, for an exceptional exhibition on the history of the Imprimerie Nationale.
The exhibition « Printing for Kingdom, Empire and Republic » is staging the biggest treasures of the Imprimerie Nationale, amongst them the most important collection of punches in the world.
More than 200 masterpieces, the majority classified as "Historic Monuments", including original manuscripts, old books, prints, punches, matrices and line-engraving brass instruments dating from the XVIth century to our days, and for some revealed for the first time, are shown to the public in the galleries of the Grolier Club.
Are exhibited "The Politics" of Aristote, written by Angel Vergèce, the Cretan calligrapher of François 1st, "The Ecclesiastical History" of Eusèbe of Césarée, the first book printed with the Greeks of King in the time of the printers of the King in 1544, and also "Imitatione Christi", the first manuscript brought out of the press of the Royal Printing office created by Louis XIII and Richelieu. The biggest collections of punches of the Imprimerie Nationale are also exhibited, in particular the Greeks of King, the oldest punches of the Imprimerie Nationale, engraved by Claude Garamont, but also Romain of King, Romain de l'Empereur, Marcellin Legrand, without omitting the unique collection of oriental punches.
Des visites guidées sont organisées du 12 au 15 décembre à 12h par le conservateur du Grolier Club, H. George Fletcher et du 17 au 19 janvier 2012 à 14h par Lucile Theveneau, conservatrice à l’Imprimerie nationale. H. George Fletcher animera une conférence sur l’exposition le 14 décembre à 18h et un colloque sur les savoir-faire historiques de l’Imprimerie nationale sera organisé le mardi 24 Janvier 2012 dans les locaux de la FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française).
Conducted tours are specially organized from December 12th to 15th at noon by the curator of the Grolier Club, George Fletcher and from January 17th till 19th 2012 at 3pm by Lucile Theveneau, curator to the Imprimerie Nationale. George Fletcher will lead a conference on the exhibition on December 14th at 6pm and a colloquium on the historic know-how of the Imprimerie Nationale will be organized on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012 in the premises of the FIAF (French Institute Alliance Française).
The Catalogue of the exhibition, created and printed in the workshops of the Imprimerie Nationale, will be available in limited edition (500 copies).

The Atelier du Livre d’Art et de l’Estampe of the Imprimerie Nationale, the last traditional production line in the world, preserves the most important collection of punches in the world.
